This week, the legend behind Han Solo, Indiana Jones, and one of Hollywood's most iconic careers took to the podium at the 32nd Annual Actor Awards.
At 83 years old, Harrison Ford has a career spanning six decades, a filmography that's grossed over $10 billion, and a cultural footprint that's hard to overstate. But it's not simply his resume that has us so captivated.
His acceptance of the SAG-AFTRA Life Achievement Award this week was less of a speech, and more of a masterclass in perspective and humility. Insight into the struggles that didn't make the final cut. The carpentry jobs between acting gigs. And 15 years of not-quite-yet before the world ever knew his name.
It was a hero's journey told simply, honestly, and with that trademark dry humour mixed with a vulnerability we've rarely - if ever - seen from this movie giant.
Harrison spoke of the people who guided him through the hard times. About the privilege of getting to know yourself through work you love. And about what it means to find your people - a community that catches you when you're lost and gives you somewhere to belong.
There's something beautiful about getting to meet someone in their most human moments. The moments when they're nervous or overwhelmed, but determined to share a piece of their heart. It's always a privilege to finally meet the person behind the persona.
For all the glamour and excitement of Hollywood, it's authenticity and vulnerability that we're often most in need of, from one another.
We're all lost boys and girls at some point.
And that feeling isn't exclusive to our early years, it shows up at all different stages of life. Because we're hard-wired for connection. We're all looking for our community, a sense of belonging, somewhere we can contribute and make a difference.
If you're feeling a little lost right now, know that you're not alone. We've all been there, and we'll experience this feeling many times over in the course of a lifetime.
But remember, it only takes one other person to form a community. And it can grow so quickly from there.
Curiosity and community will always lead us somewhere extraordinary and unexpected. Especially when we "support each other, lift others up when we can, [and] keep the door open for the next kid. The next lost boy who's looking for a place to belong."
